No Batteries Required

oil on panel, 9 x 24"

Old tin toys - what's not to love? The dump truck is especially fun, both the back end and the front loader really work. I know I'll be painting these again - I'm thinking a Huge version of the truck is on the list.

Very cool painting of the toys. I like all the toys -- the jacks, the globe... I look forward to your future paintings of the trains.

I love the title!

Paz, thanks as always! Trains are intimidating - so many details - but I'm always up for a challenge.

Kate, thanks for your comments on the Keyboard and other recent posts :-) I have a painting to post on Tuesday, hope you will enjoy the title of that one as well.

Terry, great painting. Awakens a feeling of nostalgia. Can you tell us a little about the train? A friend's father owns a train store where I buy miniature figures, which I occasionally use in my cookie photos.

Hi Mari and welcome to my blog!
The train: from the late 60's or early 70's, one of many tin toys that Kanto Toys of Japan made. The whole thing is tin (except for a plastic bottom) and all the details are painted on. Its about 15 inches long and has cool wheels on the bottom that make a distinctive noise when you roll it.
I'm sure it will show up in some future paintings.
Do you have any train cookies to share?

Terry,
I really like this painting...brings back a lot of childhood memories. You're right the dump truck would make a good "solo" painting.

I enjoy your site, visit often but don't always comment. Your range of subjects is inspiring.

Hi Marsha, and Robyn - there are so many great old toys from our (at least, my) childhood; I wonder what todays' kids will remember as special. When I was buying the top at a junk store an very old woman stopped me and started talking about how tops had always been her favorites... I like how these old things can bring us together.
