'32 Chevy DeLuxe

oil on panel, 24x18"

I went to a car show early in the morning the last day of the event. Many of the cars were already gone, and no one was around, no owners and no admirers. Most of the cars were from the 50's and 60's, but this Sports Coupe was just a gem in a class of its own! I started the painting in the lower right corner, moved around it clockwise, just focusing on the abstract shapes. It wasn't until I did the chrome and the headlight that it started to pop - and when I finally did the grill this afternoon it all came together.

This is beautiful, I like the way you describe painting the abstract shapes. I wonder, did you go to the car show to look at cars or to take photos of cars to paint?

Thanks Joan - the answer about car shows is both - I love going and admiring all the styles of the different eras, much like a fashion revue. I think the styles comment on our history and how we viewed ourselves at a given moment. I also find that the people who go to car shows are fun and interesting, coming from all walks of life, and all ages. And yes, its a great time to get reference photos for painting!

Really stunning painting, Terry. I am not a car person at all, but I think this is really lovely.

I'm so glad I asked about the reasons you went to the car show. I learned a lot just from reading your thoughtful answer.

Joan, Carol, Seth, Chris, and Paz - you all humble me with your generous words. Each of you does such wonderful work and it is a privilege to share with you.

Chris - "Wish I'd done it" is just exactly what I feel when I look at your paintings. Thanks!

Terry , What i Like is the richness in the colors not just the abstract of your reflections which in this case beautiful, but the body of color has such depth.
Great work.
